Boy...it's been awhile since I posted here! Very Happy

I have three ADK mics now...and older Hamburg and Vienna (black bodies) and also a TT/CE (my #1 vocal mic).

The Vienna started making an intermittent tump & wheezing noise...it comes and goes, then at some points completely gone for awhile...then it comes back.
I can just plug/power the mic and hold it still and I'll get a thump....thump...thump, thump...then a wheezing/wind-like noise, then more thups, and sometimes a very high-pitched screeching noise.
Mind you...this is at a pretty low level comprable to any signals I put through it...BUT...still very audible.

The Hamburg has never done this.

Does this sound repairable? I'm assuming it's one of the caps...maybe?
Where would I send it for repairs and would the repairs possibly outweight the cost of getting a new mic?

Thanks!

HI!

Sounds like your V capsule might be showing signs of aging... or humidity contamination. This design is more prone to this type of issue. We can swap the capsule or fit one of our new AU line capsules. Where are you located right now?

Here's the final wrap-up to my problem….

Kevin Dale in the Custom Shop found the cause to be a bad capacitor (we originally thought it was the capsule). He replaced the bad cap along with a couple of others to help clean up the electronics a bit more...and then also did the same for my Hamburg which I sent along with the Vienna.

ADK took care of that service for FREE....can't beat that support!

I also had Kevin upgrade my TT/CE with a new TT 12-Au capsule. It was a worthwhile upgrade compared to the stock capsule (which I always liked anyway). The TT 12-Au has much sweeter "esss" sounds (not as much need to de-ess or edit them out) and an overall improved smoothness to the top end that's to-die-for.
There is also more body/dept to the overall tone, which I thought was pretty nice with the stock capsule...but now...I'm in heaven!
Even though I have a few other nice brands/models in my locker..the TT/CE is still my top choice mic!

I also bought a couple of ADK TL mics that Kevin had refurbished since they were too good a deal to pass up. Loving them too!

I'm up to 5 ADK mics now...and I have one more in my sights! Very Happy
